  • FD's sizes are very limited, I have a 3.9 FD on my gripper box. Your FD must be a one off.
Maybe see if gripper will do a one off FD to suit your needs, go on a gear ratio calculator and sus out what you need.

    • Yes it was a custom made one apparently!
They said the would make me a final drive, but all of this is very new to me and I really don't know.
What do I need, to use these calculators? I don't know the gear ratios of my gripper gears
Thinking of something like a 130mph top end

      • Easy to figure out the ratios if the box is stripped down.. Just count the teeth on each gear and divide one by the other! For example.. The first gear in my BE gearbox has 38 teeth on the one gear, and 13 teeth on the other giving a ratio of 2.92.

Work out your ratios, type then into a gear calculator like the one below, type in your tyre size and rev limit. Then have a play around with typing in different FD's and it'll tell you the speed in each gear!

          • Cheers Dave! Did some maths today and mine are the same as you've mentioned!
Final drive decided on, and should be ordered today!
Hopefully should be more suited than the theoretical 160mph top end I had before

            • Probably not realistic that.

What'd you go for in the end?

                  • I hope the box is ok for you in the future.

I had a ballache with my one but it came ok... I've a lot more power and torque with my new engine, I hope it stays together for a while.

                    I can't afford a BE dog box.

                    • I do remember you having issues with your box but can't remember what they were? What was up with it?

                      • The selector mechanism was bent, this engaged 2 gears at the same time breaking one.

                        • Oh dear, I'll have to check mine as I can't afford for this to happen again!
                          Was your selector noticeably bent?

                          • Not sure, it was repaired under warranty each time.
